Here is a trio of postcards telling the story of one lady's encounter with the "Love Messenger" cupid! This set of cards is a standout because it has been upgraded from the typical line illustration (as seen in the last photo). At first look, I thought fabric had been fused to create the bronze, copper and gold effects on the woman's gown, but it is simply the superb German quality of the paper/paint/printing and embossing.
The French texts say (best as I can translate) : Bronze (letter in hand): And in the form of an angel The Love Messenger Brings a pure mix of Happiness forever.
Copper (arrow in hand): Happy the girl To feel in her heart That from a skillful hand The arrow of happiness
Gold (Putting letter in mail box): O unparalleled happiness A love of youth You do not know the evil You love the allegiance.
It is difficult to capture the exact shades/tones of the cards because they looks different depending upon how you hold them in what kind of light. I've included two photos, one with natural daylight and one taken under a lamp, to highlight the details and superior quality of these cards. But for color accuracy, the direct scans better capture the creamy white background color. Circa 1904-1914 SIZE: 3.5 by 5.5 Unused, embossed, and overall, in near mint condition. Any signs of age seem almost an insult to point out:)
