This very unique half doll or bust with wired arms is all original. Her condition is excellent! I want to mention that the inside of the tea cosy has light soiling from use, but her clothing is in wonderful condition, and there is no damage to the parian bisque. This item is 18 1/2 to 19 inches tall, including her hair and fabric crown. The padded base measures approximately 10 inches deep and 14 inches wide, and is wired to be made rounder rather than oval. I would estimate the doll to be at least 6 inches tall. Her face is delicately painted and just gorgeous. Her face appears very french like the other 3 I have, but these may be German made.
I have only been able to find 4 of these ladies in the past 12 years of searching extensively. I was never able to find an origin in all of my research, but I believe them to be of the half doll era of 1920-1940. All have the same padded tea cosy or cozy base, and all are very regal or queen like. Each of these dolls have real hair or mohair wigs, cold painted faces and unusual large hands. This one has a black wig made of human or horse hair. Of the four that I own, all have been elaborately dressed, but half of them have been in terrible shape. All of the dolls in my collection, were used in the past as tea cosies. I did clean her dress a bit, but it is original. Her neckline has hand done jet beading, and there are larger jet beads with swags at the base, surrounded by ostrich feathers. The base looks like it has a dark purple to black taffeta underskirt, which is then covered in the crimson lace and some black alencon lace. I want to mention that her dress lace is crimson and not tomato red. The feathers in her hand are a brighter red than her dress.
