This super example of art pottery by the Rookwood company was decorated by the renowned and highly sought after artist Jen Jensen. After arriving in the United States in 1927 from Denmark, Mr. Jensen went to work at the Rookwood factory in 1928 continuing employment until 1948. During the twenty years, he quickly became known for his talents and created many awesome works of art. In 1931, he married Elizabeth Barrett a fellow decorator at the pottery. His works are represented at a number of museums here in the United States as well as other parts of the world. This example was produced in 1930 as one of the 50th year anniversary pieces. On the bottom the standard Rookwood logo, XXX for 1930, shape number 1929, the small incised fan mark indicating the 50 year anniversary of the founding of Rookwood and his recognizable cypher are all clearly visible. The pot stands 4 1/4” tall, measures 3 1/2” across the top and 7” across the widest region of the body. This example has no chips, cracks, damage or repairs. The design of the decoration reminds me of the style of Pablo Picasso as the shapes appear to be abstract plants and structures. The inside is clean showing no residue, I will mention for accuracy sake several faint craze lines in the bottom of the inside, these do not detract from the beauty or value of this wonderful example.
