During the 19 teens, the Weller pottery company of Ohio produced classic simple shapes using unusual glazes to create an arts and crafts appeal. One such line was called frosted matt. First introduced in 1915, examples hit the market place and were purchased to accent the mission style decor popular at the time. Found in all sizes from this smaller bud vase to large floor vases, examples in this line is not easy to find today. The most desirable pieces of frosting matt tend to have a fairly complex and even mottled glaze covering the entirety of the outside. This wonderful example sports a beautiful two-tone green glaze with veins of yellow and rust color slicing from top towards the base creating a suspended glaze effect. The vase stands 6 3/8” tall and measures 3” across the top, slightly less for the base. Unmarked, but definitely Weller. After cleaning and examination, I can find no chips, cracks, damage or repairs. A truly small but exceptional example of a highly sought-after pattern from Weller pottery. Please enjoy the multiple pictures of this vase.
