The renowned glass company, Northwood, has been known to produce some of the nicest and most collectible glass in history. Known to create assorted types and styles, carnival glass stands out as most likely their most popular. The company produced numerous patterns in many assorted colors and shapes. One such popular is the fancy Hearts and Flowers pattern. A detailed circular band of hearts highlights the fancy looped pattern in the center. This pattern was only produced in three shapes: the bowl in both a ruffled and piecrust edge treatment, the 9” plate and a compote. This pattern was also produced in a wide variety of colors. The color of this particular ruffle bowl is classified as ice blue, a pastel light blue base color with a frosted iridescence over the surface. Rounded points circle the rim. The bowl measures 9” across the widest spot and stands 2 1/2” tall at the top of the ruffle off the surface. I have looked this bowl over and can find no chips, cracks, damage or repairs. All points are smooth and present. There is no wear to the pastel rainbow iridescence that is especially visible in very bright light. This iridescence can be seen on both the front and the ribbed back. I will mention a circular straw mark on the bottom of the base which can be felt but is not a crack, it was part of the manufacturing process. A super pastel carnival glass example for your collection. I have included numerous pictures of both inside and natural daylight for your viewing.
