During the 19 teens, the Weller pottery company of Ohio produced classic simple shapes using unusual glazes to create an arts and crafts appeal. One such line was called frosted matt. First introduced in 1915, examples hit the market place and were purchased to accent the mission style decor popular at the time. Found in all sizes from this substantial shelf piece, large floor vases, and even smaller cabinet examples. The most desirable pieces of frosting matt tend to have a fairly complex and even mottled glaze covering the entirety of the outside. A monumental find, this fantastic vase stands almost 12 1/2” tall. The evenly applied glaze graduates from a primarily yellow hue near the top rim into a beautiful two-tone green flowing all the way to the base forming a suspended pattern. A picture of the bottom shows the same yellow glaze as seen on the top region. The piece stands 12 3/8” tall, measures 2 7/8” across the top, 5” across the base. Thorough examination reveals no chips, cracks, damage or repairs. The inside is clean with no staining or residue. A phenomenal example; definitely a show stopper in any collection. Thank you.
Because of the size, weight and value, this Weller vase will be double boxed, shipped FedEx ground home delivery, fully insured.
