A wonderful Rookwood pottery vase by the renowned artist Kataro Shiriyamadani in 1940. His pieces are probably sought after most of any of the artists who worked for this company. He decorated for the Rookwood company two different times, from 1887-1911 and 1921-1948. His accomplishments are massive. I believe this style would be considered a decorated mat/double vellum decorated ware. A beautiful dawn colored background enhances the subtle florals presented in a deco design. The vase stands 8” tall, 3” top and 3 1/4” base. The standard Rookwood logo can be seen along with the Roman numerals XL for 1940 and the number 935D for the shape/size. Kataro’s signature is clearly visible. This item is pristine in condition, no damage or repairs noted. For accuracy sake, I did notice three pinhead sized kiln marks on the bottom rim, normal for this type of art pottery. For safe delivery, this vase will be double boxed, shipped FedEx ground/home delivery, fully insured. A very nice example from likely the most famous Rookwood artist of all time.
