Here is another piece which I believe was made in the early 1980's as a test/experimental piece when Fenton was working on their formula for Favrene glass. It is called a melon bowl and is 3 1/2 inches tall and 5 3/4 inches wide. It is made of cobalt glass and has a soft purple glow to the exterior. The top edge feels rough, like stretch glass and the inside looks kind of like glossy stretch glass. It feels smooth to the touch.
Neat features about this piece that help to date it include Michael Fenton's hand signature on the bottom. He also dated it 8-7-81. The Fenton logo with an 8 inside the oval also appears on the bottom, which dates it to the 1980's. It also says '75th' under the logo. Fenton's 75th anniversary was during 1980.
Another rare piece of Fenton history in excellent condition.
