This is a one-of-a-kind historical piece from the Estate of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt with provenance. This piece is so fabulous it is just unfortunate that you cannot feel the quality in this linen piece. I am not great with fabrics but it is a fine and soft fabric that may be a blend of silk.
This tablecloth has been passed through three generations and although rarely used, it was in fact used. It has been very well taken care of. It has NO visible stains and only a few very small pinhead sized holes that I have marked with dimes next to them. The initials of FDR are embroidered onto the corner section of the tablecloth. It measures 126" x 86".
'Peter and Lucy Bilkert of Arlington, VA obtained the cloth from a sale of miscellaneous items from the Roosevelt Estate in Washington DC. Peter and Lucy had no children and so the cloth passed to Peter's sister in Grand Rapids Michigan who in turned passed it to her son and it was then given to his son.'
'Peter Bilkert and his wife Lucy both worked in Washington for the government until their retirement. Peter was employed by the National Park in the early 1900's. Pictures of him taken at Yellowstone National Park are included as well as this description.'
