Set of 5 Original Painted Wooden Scenery Props from the Rodgers & Hammerstein world famous musical show 'Carousel'. !
The painted fairground Animal' props were made in England for the London opening of 'Carousel' in 1950 - the show running for 5 years, after which it was taken to Brussells in 1958 for a further run at the Belgian World Fair. The scenic panels were then put into storage and found only recently.
The animals represented were naturally copied from Gustav Dentzel, considered America's greatest carousel carver.
Now offered here as a set of 5 - Ostrich, Turkey, Pig, Cat and Rooster with a missing foot .
In good condition with a little wear , the Ostrich stands 6ft tall - and is shown photographed outside the front of our London shop .
Carousel was Rodgers & Hammerstein's second musical comedy hit following on from "Oklahoma', and opened in New York on Broadway in 1945 . It has since been revived a number of times and is generally considered as the most popular musical show of all time. Because of the obvious historical interest it would be great if the animals were bought and used or displayed together in context rather than being broken up.
