Unusual and Decorative cut-out Metal Sign from France- 'POSTICHES D'ART' !
Postiches has two meanings in French, 'fakes' but also 'wigs' or 'hairpieces'. So the liklihood is the shop the sign came from a shop that sold Art Reproductions - but possible also that it could have sold Artistic Hairpieces or Wigs. ?
The iron sign, which was made by an artisan metalworker or blacksmith, has two metal hook-eyes set towards either end so that the sign can be conveniently hung. from hooks above it.
Whatever, the actual trade was, this is a very pleasing and decorative sign with interestingly patinated metal and light showing through the attractive cut out lettering.
Measures 74 inches long. Circa 1920-1935. In good sturdy condition.
