Scottish Pub Mirror from the late Victorian era, advertising 'Pattison's Scotch Whiskies' in its original carved shield shaped wood frame, surrounded by symbolic thistle motifs
The bevelled edged mirror has lost a little color from the lettering and the medallion over its long life, but is in stable condition. The maker's name 'Mcphail & Co Ltd. Glasgow' is reverse etched on the bevel at the base of the mirror just below the coat-of-arms .
With a flat moulding on the base of the frame, the mirror can be stood as well as being fixed to a wall, either with mirror plates , or with hooks and cord.
Circa 1880-1900. In reasonably good condition for its age, though with some spotting and various imperfections in the lettering, and some tiny pieces missing on the outer frame carving.
Nevertheless a very rare and desirable piece either for the home decorator or the collector. Measures 36 inches high x 28 wide.
