An unusual carved wooden Frame with added mirror and date '1886'. Hand-carved with central flower motif , intricate vine with hanging buches of grapes , songbird etc and initials EG and GG, this is a really beautiful on-off 'naive' artwork by an unknown 'whittler' in late 19th century France.
The antique style mirror glass has been added by myself (It could therefore have been carved orginally as a frame for a picture- markings on the reverse indicating something once having been attached behind central display).
In good condition for its age, there are the visible vertical joins above the central display and beneath it to the right of the bird carving.
The wood itself is almost an inch in thickness.
Measures 23 inches high x 16 wide. From France.
