Very Rare Late Victorian Table Lamp made exclusively for the "William Whitely' Department Store in London .
The beautifully hand-decorated china lampbase in the form of a nursery story 'Mrs.Fox' ( possibly from the 'Beatrix Potter' Victorian childrens' books) was one of rarest examples of oil table lamps which were produced in the French Limoges region during the late 19th century exclusively for William Whitely's Department Store in Bayswater, London.
(Whitelys was London's first ever department store, opening in 1863 and employing 6000 staff. It was rebuilt in 1911 the new building becoming world famous. The store finally closed in the 1980's and has since become a very upmarket shopping mall).
In perfect condition with original brass oil burner and gallery ring.
Stands 9 inches high . Circa 1880-1900. Made in Limoges. France for William Whiteley of London.- (see photo of maker's marks on base )
