Unusual slightly Primitive Carved Pediment with Hunting Theme of a Boar's Head and Dogs- from France. France is still heavily forested and Wild Boar is still hunted in many parts of the country. and is famously eaten in casseroles and stews as winter dishes. Local woodcarvers are often commissioned to carve trophies and wall plaques with hunting themes. Pediments like this are also often made to surmount a traditional piece of furniture like a dining room sideboard or cupboard, or else as an overdoor above an entrance.
