Interesting mid-19th century Portrait in Oil of a French Army Officer . The period was that of the Crimean War when France, under Emperor Napoleon III, and Britain sent armies to confront the Russians and help save the crumbling Turkish empire- contemporary with the American Civil War. I thought he was very well painted and characterful, and the uniform is very typical of that period. The painting is unsigned and in good condition with several old repair patches on the reverse. It is offered unframed although I can quote to get it suitably framed by request.
Measures 35 inches tall x 24 wide From France, circa 1850-1865
