A beautiful and almost perfect example of a very collectible and desirable Chocolat Suchard Advertising Clock from France produced as an early point-of-sale advertisement in the period before the first World War, when Suchard clocks were hung in Cafés, Bars and Tea Rooms throughout France.
Velma, the little Suchard heroine and her friends are shown in the lower glass panel holding chocolate bars.
The much sought after clock has a clockwork winding movement with pendulum - see last photo- in working condition. The case is made of wood ,hand painted with convex glass dial cover and painted convex glass advertising panel. . The dial inside the clock case is original painted enamel and the pendulum and other internal fittings are brass. It has its original brass wall hanging plates and catch which locks the hinged door front. It also comes with its original brass winding key.
Measures 19 inches high x 9 wide x 4 deep. In good condition with a minimum of wear to the outer case. From France circa 1900-1915.
(I have another perfect example of this rare clock at home which has a vertical crack on the glass panel and which is available at a discounted price)
