Decorative mid-19th century Mirror from France in original wood-backed & gilded Papier-Maché frame created in the earlier 'Rococo' style of king 'Louis XV' .
The slight ripple in the mirror glass gives a distorted effect thus creating an interestingly bizarre visual image rather than an exact looking-glass.
The papier maché moulding is backed by an original wooden base frame , the reverse side of which has recently been fitted with metal fixings allowing the mirror to be hung either landscape or portrait.
Dating from the period of the Emperor Napoleon III, 1860-1875 , a time when papier-maché had become a national craze in France. Measures 25 inches high x 22 wide. In good condition , the frame with a little tarnish from its age and usage, the antique style mirror glass added recently.
