A handsome & historic Grandfather or Long case 'Comtoise' Clock from the traditional clock making 'Franche Comté' region of eastern France, in the Jura mountains and near to the Swiss border.. With its original enamelled dial and 'repoussé' brass surround and pendulum, the clock is in its original hand painted pine case with glazed doors which hinge open (upper door) or lift off (lower door) for access. It has its two original heavy iron weights.

The clock chimes both before and after the hour, and needs rewinding every 8 days. A winding key is supplied.

Stands 7ft 6inches tall. In fair condition for its age, with a minor amount of wear to the base of the wooden case. Made circa 1865-1890
