A very decorative Overmantel Mirror from France, made in the 'Trumeau' style with upper and lower mirrored panels set in a carved wood frame in old, possibly original grey paint.. It was common practice at the time for one or other of the panels to contain an oil painting- in this case both have been mirror-glazed- the lower mirror being original, the upper a replacement for an original mirror or painting which was missing when I found it. The 'Torcheres'- carved arrows & quivers- date the mirror to the period of Emperor Napoleon III- roughly the 1860's.
