Forget Me Not Antiques specializes in the mementoes of women and children from the Victorian and Edwardian eras
Another charming children’s book published by Ernest Nister and perfect for your doll display.
Nister's children's books were produced in multiple sizes. This is one of the series of smaller ones. Like the other Nister books of this type, A SWEET STORY measures 4 3/4" x 6". They were published for the holiday season and sold as a set of four or six in a charmingly illustrated cardboard presentation box. The boxes are rarely found these days but the books appear singly from time to time. They all have a hard cover made from coated paper covered boards with cloth spine bindings. A SWEET STORY’s is brown. There are twelve unpaginated pages with four chromolithograph plates and drawings in text and floral endpapers. The only identifying colophon information is printed on the front cover. In tiny text at the bottom it is marked London, Ernest Nister 24 St. Bride Street EC; Printed by E. Nister in Nuremburg, Bavaria; 271 a, New York, E.P. Dutton & Co 31 W. Twenty Third Street. The author is M.A. Hoyer. No illustrator information is provided, nor is there a copyright date.
The provenance of this copy is written on the front endpaper. It belonged to “Grandma Archibald (Alma Irene) born Victorian BC Dec 3, 1892, died Van Oct.24, 1964.” With the exception of the inked notation, the book is in good condition. The covers have some smudges and scratches and the corners are bumped. The endpapers have toned a bit. Please examine the photos and feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
While you are here, do enjoy the other children’s books I have available at this time. Thank you for visiting my shop today.
