Here is a perfectly preserved embossed paper lace valentine with a brightly colored printed insert from the 1870’s. I believe it is American.

The valentine measures 3 ¾” x 5 ½”. It is an embossed white paper lace folder decorated with a red paper center medallion and floral scraps. Inside is a like new chromolithographed sheet in brilliant red, yellow and blue printed with the following verse:

Darling One
Let me whisper in your ear.
Noiseless as the falling dew.
Words I’d have but you to hear,
“Darling one, I love but you.”
Lock these words within your heart,
That they never may be gree.
Keepthem where so’er thou art.
And loved one, let me hold the key.”

“AE” is penciled on the back.

The valentine is in pristine condition. Please examine the photos and feel free to contact me if you have any questions. While you are here, do enjoy the other valentines I have available at this time. Thank you for visiting my shop today.
