The Rococo Revival style of Old Paris porcelain was very popular in the United States in the late 19th century. Often people taking the Grand Tour shipped pieces back to America and American merchants had crates brought in for sale in the stores of America’s large cities. Mostly unmarked, Old Paris was manufactured by more than thirty porcelain makers based in the city between the mid 1700’s until around 1870.

This inkwell and sander probably dates from the latter period. It measures 6”x 5”x 2 ¼” at its tallest point. The sander and inkwell are 1 ½” high. The piece is designed so that a dip pen fits very nicely in the slots behind them. It is unmarked, hand painted with pink roses and embellished with gold borders and flourishes characteristic of the Rococo Revival style.

This piece is in very good condition but typical of Old Paris, some of the the gold embellishment on the edges has rubbed off over the years. Please examine the photos and feel free to email me if you have any questions.
