Here is a discovery from the bottom of a box of 1920’s valentines. How pleased Laura must have been to receive this gift!
H.H. sketched this portrait of Laura and quoted Tennyson’s, “The Gardener’s Daughter”:
“A certain miracle of symmetry,
A minature of loveliness, all grace.
Summ’d up and closed in little.”
On the back is penciled, “Paxton”. The piece measures 2 7/8” x 3 ¾”.
The sketch has some drips and a smudge on the front and some toning on the back but these do not detract from the charm of the piece. Please examine the pictures and feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
