This large pin disc is covered with the same floral watered silk pattern used by the community of Shakers in New Hampshire and Maine in their beautiful, simple sewing accessories of the early 20th century. The embellishment of the glass and pearl head pins however, is not in keeping with the typical Shaker style so I am not sure of the origin of this piece. The pins may also have been added later.
The disc is 4 1/2" in diameter. It is made from thick card covered with the floral patterned watered silk on the front and plain ivory silk on the back. Two ivory ribbons are attached to the sides for hanging. Decorating the bottom half of the disc are large white glass-head pins. The top of the disc has alternating pearl head pins and tiny white glass head pins.
The disc is in excellent condition. Three needles are still in place and there are a few pulls on the silk but otherwise it is unmarked.
