Native American Indian Delicate Sterling Silver & Gold Filled Squash Blossom with Roses Necklace

This is a beautiful authentic sterling silver, gold filled, turquoise and coral squash blossom necklace that was created by an unknown Navajo artist. This is one of the most unusual pieces of Native American jewelry that I have seen. It is a small squash blossom necklace perfectly proportioned.. It is quite unique as it has hand made roses on each blossom and the naja. The necklace is more delicate than most of this traditional Native American style. It features fantastic detailing and perfectly beautiful polished genuine natural Bisbee turquoise and red coral stones that have been carefully matched in both color, size and texture. One of the most wonderful necklaces that I have found in all of my years collecting.

The necklace is made of sterling silver and is strung on sterling silver chain, and then an overlay of 1/20 12K gold filled. The beads are gold filled and perfect! The beads measure 6 mm round and they are also hand made... It is not signed by the maker but has sterling and gold filled hallmark. The necklace fastens with a traditional hand made hook and eye clasp. It measures (end to end) 23" long with the naja being another 1-5/8" long and 1-3/4" across. In vintage mint condition, this is will make a treasured and beloved gift.

While usually associated with Navajo silversmiths, squash blossom necklaces were also made and worn by the Pueblo and Zunis. The Zuni necklaces usually featured needlepoint designs. It is believed that the flower symbol that we see in necklaces was brought to the Navajo at the turn of the century, the 1800's to the 1900's. This blossom has long petals just beginning to open. These hang from the sides of the beads. This is supposed to be a Spanish-Mexican pomegranate flower. The turquoise inlay patterns were a Zuni innovation in the 19th century. The squash blossom necklace serves as a reminder of the close interaction between the Pueblo and Navajo Indians since the mid 1800s. The Southwest Indian squash blossom jewelry necklaces originated not just from one of the people, but from many.
