Native American Indian Sterling Silver Sleeping Beauty Turquoise Drop Dangle Pierced Earrings
These beautiful earrings are entirely handmade of Sterling Silver and small cabochons of Sleeping Beauty Turquoise. They are 2-3/8" long, and 5/8" wide at the bottom, and the top post portions are 1/2" wide. They weigh 9.2 grams, and they are for pierced ears. All of the Sleeping Beauty turquoise snake-eye stones are hand set in saw tooth bezels. Techniques in the 1940's, by today's standards, were rather primitive. Tools were crude, but workmanship was high quality for the time. These earrings are a perfect example of that era. There is no maker's mark. Artist marks were not commonly used in the early days of jewelry-making. Not marked but acid tested as sterling.
These earrings have the classic vintage look. The dangles are long and straight which is the early style of silver dangles. They are treasures from the past, made to last and last. As they increase in age, they will increase in value. They are not only an investment, but a lasting piece of Zuni history.
From a newspaper article in the Globe,Miami Times in Arizona. The Matrix, the Market, the Mine.
For the last 46 years Globe produced some of the most desirable turquoise in the world. It came from the mountain shaped like a woman at rest- Sleeping Beauty. It is the kind of turquoise people expect to see when they think of classic 'American Turquoise'. Mr.Nichols owned the lease to the Sleeping Beauty mine for the last 24 yrs. They stopped mining the Sleeping Beauty mine earlier this year. The lease ended in July,2012. The turquoise supply grew scarce, and due to the increasing restrictions of government laws and liabilities,Nicols says he and his resource company are not currently interested in renewing it.The price will go up on any and all available.
