It was likely made in the 1940's on the reservation of the Zuni Indian Pueblo in western New Mexico. It is signed Verna Pinto and Zuni. Handmade of sterling silver and natural turquoise from the Sleeping Beauty turquoise mine near Globe Arizona, this signed necklace demonstrates what an expert silversmith can do. Even the silver link chain is hand made.. This necklace is sometimes referred to as a miniature needlepoint necklace as the pieces of needlepoint shaped turquoise are extremely tiny..The necklace is approximately 18" long. The necklace has three sections, each with the crown at the top, and 21 turquoise needles, with the crown having five each. brings the total number of tiny natural turquoise needlepoint stones to 78! The number of cut and polished stones in this piece along with the fine silverwork translates to hundreds of hours of silversmith artistry.
