Malachite is a copper carbonate mineral, usually found in association with copper mines. Malachite has been mined as a copper ore and decorative mineral for over 3000 years. It's famous for it's bright green colors, usually formed in layers or rings of alternating light and dark greens. The greens are so rich and vivid that finely crushed malachite was used as a pigment for paints up until the 1800's.
