Antique French .800 silver lady's chain mail purse. The frame work is exquisite, decorated with elegant neoclassical styling. Comprising of laurel and stylized acanthus along the sturdy handle centered by a blank escutcheon cartouche with ribbon and laurel detail. Absolutely stunning quality workmanship! Handle features a kiss-lock closure. Suspended from a linked chain. Beautifully constructed with quality chain mail mesh. Heavy with a good weight in hand. Weighs 328.5 grams. Hallmarked with the French head of the wild boar, in use from 1838 to indicate a silver content of .800/1000, close to .925 sterling. Also bearing a maker's marks for silversmith Louis Baudet, active 1882-1935 at 14 rue des Archives , Paris. In very good condition, no holes or breaks to the mesh. Measures 6 1/8" across the frame and the purse is 7" in height, sans chain. Measures approx. 14" total length with the chain. Weighs 242.2 grams.
