Rare 6 piece set of antique 19th century French sterling silver hors d'oeuvre / sweetmeat servers, implements with exquisite Louis XVI ornamentation. Comprising of elegant floral decorated handles and service ends. Enhanced with a charming spring time engraved motif, of butterflies above flowers in full bloom nestled among leaves and berries on a sinuous vine. The two larger pieces are monogrammed with interlaced initials DS or SD. In overall good condition with general wear. Please see pictures for measurements. Total silver weight of 157.5 grams. Hallmarked with the French Minerve 1st standard mark, which guaranteed the finest quality French sterling silver of .950/1000 purity in use from 1838 (95% pure silver and a higher grade than the standard .925 for sterling). Two pieces bear marks for silversmith Gustave Leroy, active 1886-1897. Others are marked for silversmith Robert Linzeler, active from 1897 to 1926. The workshop of Gustave Leroy was located at 68 rue de Turbigo, Paris and was succeeded by Robert Linzeler in the spring of 1897; Linzeler would continue the firm into the 1920's, maintaining its reputation as one of the finest tableware manufacturers of the Third Republic.
