An antique 19th century French sterling silver & vermeil dessert server duo, comprising of a strawberry or whipped cream spoon and an intricately pierced sugar sifter spoon. Both are exquisitely crafted, with gilt vermeil bowls. Unusual floral form shaping to the berry spoon, further enhanced by elegant floral engraving. Gorgeous stylized acanthus leaves adorn the back of the bowls and handles, patterned with acanthus and scrolling foliate. Engraved on verso with a monogram of interlaced initials RE done in elaborate floral form script. The set is complete and finely housed in the original green satin lined presentation box.. In good condition. There is some wear to the back of the strawberry spoon. Wear to the box commensurate with age. Hallmarked with the French Minerve 1st standard mark, which depicts the goddess Minerva with a number 1 beside her to denote a silver content of 950/1000 (of 95% pure silver and a higher finesse than .925 sterling). Also bearing marks for notable silversmith Victor Boivin, active from 1897 at 5 rue de Montmorency in Paris. Strawberry spoon measures 8 5/8" length, sugar spoon measures 7 5/8" length. Total silver weight of 140.5g. Box measure 11 " length x 7" width x 2" tall.
