A gorgeous antique 19th century French sterling silver 4 piece hors d'oeuvre serving set, finely engraved with sumptuous neo-Renaissance decoration with a gilt vermeil two-tone finish. Comprising of a flat server, spoon, 2-pronged fork and serving tongs. Engraved with winged beasts or dragons with a fierce roaring lion's visage surrounded by scrolling tendrils. Elaborate handles are tipped by magnificent mythological mascarons and heavily scrolling foliate. Housed within the original presentation box, with red silk ruched lined interior. In good antique condition, the presentation box showing wear to the exterior. Hallmarked with the French Minerve 1st standard mark, which depicts the goddess Minerva with a number 1 beside her to denote a silver content of 950/1000 (of 95% pure silver and a higher finesse than .925 sterling). Also bearing marks for notable silversmith Victor Boivin, active from 1897 at 5 rue de Montmorency in Paris. Please see photos for measurements.
