Antique French Sevres porcelain tea caddy canister by Paul Milet, son of Felix Optatus Milet. The jar features stunning flambe glaze in stunning emerald green and navy blue tones. A finely sculpted figure of a seated Chinese deity or wise man rests on the top of the lid. Mounted with exquisite French sterling silver fittings enhanced with gold vermeil finish. Silver rim and collar are fully hallmarked. Marked with the French Minerve 1st hallmark, which depicts the head of the goddess Minerva with a number 1 beside her to denote a silver content of .950/1000, in use from 1838. That's 95% pure silver and a higher grade of finesse than the standard .925 sterling. Also bearing a silversmith's mark of initials LF, likely that of Le Jean & Froidure, active from 1908 at 58 rue Charlot, Paris. The tea caddy is marked for Paul Milet and Sevres, this mark was in use circa 1911. Optat Milet began his career as a modeler for Sèvres in 1862, and opened his own ceramics factory in 1866. His son Paul Jean Milet took over operations shortly before the turn of the century and ran the company until 1931. In very good condition, some general wear commensurate with age. Measures 6 7/8" tall x 3 1/2" square.
