Pair French Paul Milet for Sevres Porcelain Vases Hallmarked Sterling Silver 950 Mounts
Pair of French Sevres ceramic vases by Paul Jean Milet, son of Felix Optatus Milet. Optat Milet began his career as a modeler for Sèvres in 1862, and opened his own ceramics factory in 1866. His son Paul Jean Milet took over operations shortly before the turn of the century and ran the company until 1931. Featuring a beautiful mottled cobalt blue ground. Decorated further with French sterling silver mounts patterned with gadroon trim. Marked MP for Paul Millet and Sevres, within a dotted circle, this mark was in use circa 1911. Mounts are hallmarked with the French Minerve 1st standard mark used from 1838 to 1919, which depicts the goddess Minerva with a number 1 beside her to denote a silver content of 950/1000 (of 95% pure silver and a higher finesse than .925 sterling). Bearing maker's marks for Parisian silversmith Edmond Molle, active 1898-1919, who commenced trade at 114 rue du Temple, Paris. In very good condition with no damage, chips or cracks to the vases. Stands 4" height.
