Late 19th century German still life oil painting on canvas. A charming table scape with a blue and white ewer displaying a poppy flower and wheatgrass, a porcelain box opened to reveal sugar cubes and table knife, a silver dish displaying an orange and grapes. A black and white kitten is seen peering into the silver dish curiously observing a fly. Note the subtle reflection of the cat's pink nose of the surface of the dish. Signed lower left. Dated 9 IV 90 (9 April 1890). Housed in a carved wood frame. The back with a stamp reading Schachinger & Herrmann, Matrequisilien & Zeichenutensilien, München Eisenmannstrasse. Suppliers of paint and drawing materials during the late 19th century, the firm was founded in 1877 and was appointed the title of Royal Bavarian Court Suppliers in 1896. In overall good condition with general age related wear. Typical craquelure. There are a few nail holes to the top edge.
