Antique French Sterling Silver Vermeil Art Glass Liquor Bottle Flask
This fabulous antique French vermeil sterling silver and glass Art Nouveau lady's traveling `spirit' flask features pate de verre or enameled purple and yellow irises atop a crackle finish with gilded accents. The glass is stunning and as is typical of these old flasks, the glass was often made by one of the major glass houses of the period, including some by Baccarat and Daum. Has a removable cup at the base, ideal for a 'shot' of one's favorite liquor. These old traveling spirits bottles were meant originally for liquor / liqueur that could be served in the attached mini tumbler, easily stow-able in a purse during a night out! The lid and drinking cup are decorated with engraved garland swags. The sterling silver lid, collar and snifter cup mounted at the base are all marked with the French Minerve 1st standard mark, which depicts the head of the goddess Minerva with a number 1 beside her to denote a silver content of .950/1000 (almost 95% pure silver, and higher.925 sterling!) Also bearing maker's marks for Parisian silversmiths Pot & Cie, circa 1908 to 1912, whose workshop was located at 97 boulevard Sébastopol in Paris. In overall good condition for its age. The vermeil shows some wear from use. No chips or cracks to the glass body. Retains its glass stopper! A charming piece! Measures about 6" long.
