An exquisite Art Deco era sterling silver and 14k rose gold compact, circa 1920s - 1930s. The compact features intricate guilloche engine turned engraving. The lid and clasp with 14K rose gold. Decorated with hand engraved flowers and leaves, inset with 21 ruby cabochons. Opening to reveal the original beveled mirror and two compartment wells for powder and blush or rouge. In overall very good vintage condition, some surface scratches commensurate with use and a little scuffing to the front right corner as shown. Stones are intact. The mirror inside shows some silver loss and yellow spots as shown. Hallmarks are located on the inside edge and near the hinge for mixed metal silver and gold. The hallmark depicted here is a French hallmark of an owl that was struck on imported jewelry and other gold objects in finished condition that were brought to be examined by the French assay office. There is a number 75 on the owl's chest, which is a nationally recognized region number for Paris, which indicates the piece was tested and verified at the Assay Office located in the Paris Area. Also hallmarked with the French swan import mark for silver pieces. Measures 4" x 3 1/8" x 1/2" height with the clasp.
