Antique French Empire Vermeil & Faux Garnet Diadem Hair Comb Tiara
An exquisite antique French vermeil and faux garnet diadem crown / hair comb tiara, dating to the early 1800s. Embellished in neoclassical motifs, a patterned frieze accented by faux garnet beading surmounted by a gallery of scrolling openwork crowned by faceted cut 'garnets'. Plated in a high carat of 18k to 22k gold. In very good condition with general wear commensurate with age. As is typical of these old diadems/tiaras, there is some unevenness to the teeth of the comb. It appears as though some of the garnet beading is a brighter shade of red than the rest and it is possible that these beads were later replacements. All in all a beautiful Empire period hair comb, rare to find with 'garnets' and rarer still to find these old diadems with the comb intact. Dimensions: 6 1/4" length x 3 1/8" deep x 1 1/8" height.
