Antique Napoleon III era French cut crystal inkwell. Elegantly worked Empire bronze or brass encasement includes finely detailed neoclassical appliques, ornate corner mounts and intricate scrolling filigree. The decor comprising of impressive mythological winged lions and neoclassical wreaths. Embellished further with intricate scrolling foliage filigree and . The quality cut crystal body is heavy and beautifully crafted. The base with an intricate cut pattern of diamond points and hobnails. Likely an early unsigned Baccarat piece, as the famed cristallerie only marked their wares with a paper label beginning in 1860 (which often times got lost, worn or removed) and did not use their acid-etched mark until 1936. Retains the original inner glass liner. Inkwell measures 3 3/8" height x 2 1/2" square. In overall good antique condition. Some wear commensurate with use and age. There are a few small nicks to the diamond points on the base, some chipping to the rim of the opening.
