An antique French Napoleon III era inkstand. Featuring a richly-veined Verde Antico green marble serpentine base mounted with a pair of marble inkwells flanked on either side. The inkwells feature hinged domed lids with bronze finials and thick carved circular bases embellished with ornate gilt bronze trim. To the front are a pair of casted figural supports for pens and quills. The marble base decorated with casted figural appliques comprising of a Grecian wreath with ribbon and a pair of nymphs or female figures. Finished with an intricate decorative frieze flanked by pillars patterned in exquisite Neoclassical ornamentation. Topped by a laurel wreath and ribbon bow finial. Resting on a bronze base with bun feet. In overall good condition with general wear and discoloration to the bronze mounts. Hidden among the intricate veining is a repair to the marble base and to the left inkwell base. Measures 13 1/2" length x 7 7/8" deep x 4 1/2" height.
