Charming antique Victorian cranberry glass patch or pill box hand painted with raised enamel flowers and gilt accents. Finished with hinged metal mounts. In overall good antique condition with general wear, there are airbubbles in the glass, some discoloration to the metal commensurate with age. Measures 1 7/8" diameter x 1" height.
Patch boxes were often used to store small fake beauty spots, very fashionable between the 18th and 19th centuries. These bright colorful boxes, made either from glass or enameled over metal, were often given as a sign of love or friendship, and were very decorative. What a perfect gift or addition to any collection!
