A gorgeous antique 19th century French blue opaline glass serpentine shaped sugar casket or jewelry box. The glass is a stunning powder blue color with a satin finish, decorated with an all over pattern of tiny hand painted gilt stars. Brass mounts circle the box, centered by an escutcheon shaped lock. Flanked by a pair of loop ring handles and resting atop four round ball feet. In good antique condition with general wear from age and use. No chips or cracks to the exquisite opaline glass. Lacking a key. Wear to the gold painted stars from years of handling. These early boxes were once intended to house precious sugar under lock and key, once imported from afar, and are now often seen as decorative objects, perfect on any table or among a collection of opaline glass! Measures 5 1/4" x 3 5/8" and stands 4 3/8" in height.
