The quality is magnificent, and the opaline glass illuminates with a fiery opalescence, literally glowing! The whimsical charm of this piece is further enhanced by the various fanciful butterflies adorning the top and sides. They are beautifully painted with fine detail, set against the exquisite bulle de savon glass, the various colors pop with such vibrancy and whimsy. Accented with gold painted scrollwork. The box is further embellished with lavish gilt bronze mounts and an ornate floral form cartouche surrounding the medallion shaped escutcheon lock. Rests on four figural winged lion paw feet. Unsigned, though most likely made by R. Noirot , who produced bottles and vanity items in this distinct butterfly pattern for the House of Guerlain perfumery in a variety of standard scents such as Ode, Shalimar, Jicky and L'Heure Bleue. These butterfly decorated bottles are highly collectible today. Dating to the early 20th century. Marked 'Made in France'.
