An antique French opaline egg shaped trinket box, a charming whimsical treasure from the Napoleon III era. Of luminous white opaline glass, a fine objet d'art as this would have been purchased by a Grand Tour traveler from one of the many Paris shops and boutiques lining the Palais Royal. Circa 1850. The edge is skirted by a pleated or ruffled trim of reticulated filigree. Resting atop scrolled feet at the base. Opaline glass is truly stunning, ranging in a variety of colors and shapes, and such opaline eggs are absolutely beautiful, great to collect and display for all to see! In very good condition with no chips or cracks to the glass. Measures 3 7/8" length x 3" width x 2" height.
