Rare pair of porcelain tea canisters decorated with hand-painted exotic / Chelsea birds on a scale blue ground. They are marked on the underside with an under the glaze blue square fret mark imitating a Chinese seal. We have seen this mark described as early Worcester circa 1770, probably made by Sampson or a similar Paris porcelain workshop circa late 19th century. Both pieces are also marked with blue dots on the inside rim of the underside, possibly workman's or painter's marks. Minor gilt wear as shown. Surprisingly heavy for their size. Shipped fully insured with tracking number.
Measurements: 4 3/4" tall (12 cm) by 3 1/2" diameter (9 cm) approximately.
