Statue of Moses terracotta statue after the original sculpture by Michelangelo commissioned by Pope Julius II. Michelangelo's original marble masterpiece can be seen at the Chiesa di San Pietro in Vincoli, a small church in a Roman neighborhood off the tourist beaten path. It portrays a seated Moses, holding the Tablets of the Law under his right arm. This version is made out of terracotta with a dark brown patina. It is marked on the underside with an impressed seal inscribed Au Petit Louvre , 2 Rue du Louvre , H. Angeli . This is a heavy and substantial piece weighing close to 9 lbs. unpacked.
