Dutch Delft Axe mark herring fishery, tin-glazed earthenware dish. It is decorated in blue over white with a charming, hand painted maritime scene of sailboats and inscribed as follows: No. 6 Een Zeeschuit op de Neering. The plate is marked on the reverse with an ax mark referred to as De Porceleyne Bijl (The Porcelain Axe), an early Delft factory. Originally part of a series of twelve dishes depicting different aspects of white herring fishery. We have seen similar items dated circa 1750-1775. In very good condition with minor imperfections consistent with age as shown. Shipped fully insured with tracking number.
