Stunning Vista Alegre Fontainebleau large soup tureen and matching underplate with heavy gilt trim beautifully decorated with blue and gold swags, leaves and flowers on an off white, celadon colored ground. It is marked on the underside with a Vista Alegre mark. Vista Alegre was founded in the early 1800's by Portuguese industrialist Pinto Basto. Shortly after, it was granted the title of Royal Factory in recognition of its artistic and fine quality wares. Vista Alegre also manufactured pieces for Mottahedeh, a recognized leader in luxury ceramic decorative items and historic designs. They hold the license to many classic designs based on Chinese Export and early European objects and have made pieces for the White House, the State Department and Diplomatic Corps as well as several museums, retailers such as Tiffany & Co. and high end designers such as Christian Lacroix.
