Charming French Pillivuyt game bird tureen / terrine in the shape of a baked meat pie decorated with a three dimensional pheasant head lid finial. Pillivuyt & Cie Porcelaines first factory was founded in the year 1800, there is a full description of the company in the French Section of the Official Catalogue of the 1862 International Exhibition also known as the Great London Exposition held in South Kensington. Game tureens are often described as Majolica for their naturalistic subject matter and outer three dimensional appearance. The maker describes them as Porcelaines a Feu (fired porcelain) which is confirmed by their hard, glassy, white interior. Lid has factory made perforations to let out steam. Inscription on the underside reads as follows:
